I infer that the CSD chairman of whom you complain must have been Golub.
I wonder if he might have felt vulnerable to criticism for lack of
impartiality in hiring, had you maintained a higher profile.  I for one,
encountering adverse measures from both of you, assumed that your attitudes
reflected his, and wondered if you had an us-versus-them mentality.

I would get more concerned about fair treatment for you now if I thought
I had had fair treatment from you in  years past.  As it is, frankly, my dear, 
I don't give a damn.
